Join Barbara Rimkunas, Curator & Co-Executive Director of the Exeter Historical Society as she discusses the Historical Society’s on-going research on African Americans, like Revolutionary War hero Jude Hall, in post-Revolutionary War New Hampshire.

When: Thursday, Feb. 25
Time: 7 – 8PM
Where: Virtual via Zoom

Shortly after the American Revolution, the population of Exeter, NH was more racially diverse than it is today. African Americans, enslaved, free and recently manumitted, comprised 4.8% of Exeter’s population, a larger percentage than any other town in the state. The contributions of Exeter’s Black population has often been overlooked when examining the history of their town.

Learn about the challenges faced by the Black community through the stories of several notable families, like Hall’s, and some of the reasons the population declined in the late 19th century.

This event is FREE and open to the public, generously hosted and offered to our patrons by Lane Memorial Library.
