It’s been a little over a month since I wrote to our Paul Memorial Library customers. As you are well aware, we are still in the midst of the COVID 19 outbreak (although there are signs of hope and evidences of many kindnesses and great thoughtfulness throughout our community and state).
We are still uncertain as to the exact date that the library will re-open, but our sense is that it is coming. We are listening intently to the information passed along to us from Governor Sununu regarding re-opening decisions at the state level.
While we do not know precisely when the library will re-open, the Library Staff and Library Board are preparing for our re-opening.
We are writing to you regarding our first step—returning library books you have at home.
If you have finished the library books that you have at home, we are now asking that you return them to the Library. Please deposit them in our silver book drop out in front of the library.

And, we also ask for your patience. There are a lot of books out there, and the book drop is small, so please, if the book drop is full, we ask that you wait another day and try again.
Returning the books to us now allows us to ensure that the materials are handled safely. Materials handling is one of the most complex areas of library operations during a pandemic due to the potential of virus transmission on shared objects such as books and DVDs. Current studies suggest the virus remains present on plastic surfaces for up to 72 hours and on cardboard and paper surfaces for up to 24 hours.
As you bring materials back, we will be quarantining them so that when we do reopen, you may borrow from the library without concern.
