Join us this summer for our 2023 Summer Reading Program: All Together Now

Our Summer Reading Program for all ages (birth to adults!) begins on June 3rd!

We will be tracking sign ups and points virtually through the online reading platform “Reader Zone” (available on desktop or via the Reader Zone app).

Download the Reader Zone app, create an account, and select “Newfields Summer Reading Challenge 2023,” with code 33e43 to get started!

If you’ve used the Reader Zone app before, your account will be ready, you’ll just have to wait for our program to officially start on June 3rd to begin tracking your minutes.

Here’s how it works…

  1. Download the Reader Zone app for your AppleAndroid or Amazon device.
  2. Create your account and add reader(s).
  3. Join the Newfields Summer Reading program with the code  33e43
  4. Log your reading all summer through the app.
  5. If you don’t have a mobile device, you can sign up at the Reader Zone website.
  6. Pre-K through Grade 6 readers will also pick up a reading roadmap to log extra reading activities to earn raffles.
  7. There are 6 raffle prizes that will be awarded to kids Pre-K thru Grade 6. And readers who complete hours on the summer reading roadmap will earn raffles along the way.

    *Earn raffle tickets for signing up, hitting reading milestones, and participating in library events. The more you read and the more you join in the fun, the more chances to win!

Kids Reading Road Maps

This year we’ll also have a special reading road map for readers to plot their hours and earn extra prizes. (Pre-K to Grade 6)

  • Track your reading minutes on Reader Zone.
  • Color in a signpost at the bottom of the map for every 5 hours your read.
  • Fill in all ten sign posts (50 hours of reading) to earn a free ice cream voucher.

There are also reading activities along the road. Color in each activity you complete (does not have to be in order). Earn a raffle ticket for every activity.

Pick up a map at the circulation desk and bring it with you to redeem your prizes.

Kids (Pre-K to Grade 6)

Step 1: Parents register online or through the app at https://app.readerzone.com/signup .

Step 2: Create your account by clicking “Sign Up”. Enter your email and create a password.

Step 3: Select your account type. A Reader account is for one person (best for teens and adults). Parents of younger children should select the “Parent” account, which is for more than one person. You’ll be able to manage all your kids’ accounts (plus yours if you participate in the Adult reading challenge) from the one main Parent account.

Step 4: Add your reader by entering a first and last name. You can add more readers later.

Step 5: Enter the Newfields Summer Reading Challenge code:  33e43

Step 6: Select your reading group (e.g., Pre-K) and click “Next.”

Step 7: The “Book Bank” will appear. You can add any books you are currently reading or plan to read here. Use the search function to find your books. This step is optional. You can always add books later. Click “Skip” in the top right corner if you don’t want to add books now.

Note: Books in your book bank don’t count towards your reading log until you click “Finish book” The Bank is just to track your to-read list.

Step 8: Click “Go” to view your account and make reading entries. Manage a reader account by clicking the blue circle icon on any reading entry page.

Tracking and Points

Track your reading with the app. The more you read, the more chances to win extra prizes. When you hit a reading milestone, you’ll see an Award pop up.

You will earn one raffle ticket just for signing up and a summer reading program participation certificate at the end of the summer.

But don’t stop there! Keep reading all summer to earn additional raffle tickets. Mark your reading on the roadmap (pick up at the circulation desk) to redeem raffles.

*Earn extra raffle tickets for any library programs you participate in. Be sure to ask the librarian for your ticket at the event.

Awards at the end of the summer

6 Raffles
We have 6 prize baskets displayed at the library for kids Pre-K thru 6 (each basket includes toys, games, and books). Come by the library to scope them out. You can add your raffle tickets to any basket. Put your raffle tickets in the prize jar(s) you want to win. One winner will be drawn for each basket. Winners will be announced at the end of the Summer Reading Program in August.  

Road Map Prizes

Don’t forget to mark your reading hours on the road map (pick up at the circulation desk) to redeem extra raffle tickets. If you complete all ten reading badges, you’ll earn a free ice cream voucher!

Teens (grades 7-12)

Step 1: Register online or through the app at https://app.readerzone.com/signup .

Step 2: Create your account by clicking “Sign Up”. Enter your email and create a password.

Step 3: Select your account type. A Reader account is for one person. Or if your parent is signing you up, they should select the “Parent” account which is for more than one person. Parents can manage all kids’ accounts from the one main Parent account.

FAQ

Who can participate?

Everyone! All ages welcome from kids to adults. Prizes and programs will be available through the summer for all ages. Come one, come all!

When does it start?

Saturday, June 3 is our official Summer Reading Kickoff but you can sign up online through August 1.

What are the prizes?

  • Raffle Prizes for Kids Pre-K thru 6.
  • Free ice cream voucher for all readers Pre-K thru 6 that complete all 10 signposts on the road map. (Pick up your map at the library).

Kids Pre-K thru 6:

My child doesn’t read yet, can they participate?

Yes! Parents can sign up their kids and log any books they read along to, including picture books and audio books.

I’m technologically challenged, Can I still participate?

Yes! If you’re having trouble signing up or tracking reading online or through the app, we can help set you up and even add reading entries from the backend if needed. Email or call the library for assistance.
